Vintage Baby PlateTiny Todkins Queen of May Day Celebration Feeding Dish
Circa 1908
Estate collection
This wonderful old baby plate features the Tiny Todkins gathered around a ribboned May pole as they crown the queen. There are sweet little girls in attendance along with what appears to be a little boy in a sailor outfit and a little chap playing on his drum.
The poem reads: “ The Tiny Todkins dressed so gay, March forth to crown their Queen of May”.
Just as fun are the pictures around the flared sides of the bowl. There are two of the little drummer boy, one of the drum, one of the queen and one of the flowers at the top of the maypole. The shape of this dish is different than most baby plates with its wide sloped edge and small center bowl. The outer edge and top rim are trimmed with very faded gold.
On the bottom it is marked:” Royal Baby Plate - Made in U.S.A. and patent dates, the last one being 1908”.
Of note: This was my grandfather’s baby bowl and it was very much used and loved. It is not perfect, but would look amazing in a vintage kitchen, or even in a doll display.
