Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: Good to very good condition. The outside is in very good condition, I see no moth holes. There is some light soiling and a few small stains. There is a small 1/2 inch area below the left front pocket where it needs to be re-stitched. There are small snaps on the ends of the top front pockets to secure them flat, two of these are missing. The inside of the jacket shows numerous stitch repairs and patches, the patches are hand sewn of a gray cotton material. I would say the inside rates good condition (with repairs), the outside is very good, perhaps even excellent.

    Description

This is a original WWII Canadian dress tunic worn by a major in the Canadian Army Artillery. The jacket is named to an officer, there is a label sewn inside the inside right pocket, this reads: ANDERSON & SHEPPARD LTD. 30, Savile Row. W.1., T2960, 6-11-39, C.O. H. Barry Esq.  There are two blackened brass flaming bomb insignia on the lapels, these read "UBIQUE" at the bottom ("everywhere"). The buttons are a gold-colored brass, they have a royal crown at top, and a wheeled cannon below. On the epaulets are red and gold royal crowns. The area above the crown on the epaulets shows four small pin pricks for earlier rank insignia. The jacket has a double ribbon bar of hand-sewn ribbons. I do not recognize many of them, I see there are ribbons for Canadian 1945 Defence medal, a 1939-1945 War medal, a WWI Victory Medal ("The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1919)," a 1914-1915 Star, and a WWII  1939-1945 Star ribbon.
The others are unknown to me. There is a small white label sewn into the jacket's lining, on it is written: " F.A. Eastern Cont. 1, 00283." I do not know the meaning of this writing, perhaps the F.A. refers to Field Artillery. *********** The jacket or blouse is made of brownish green wool. It has four front pockets that close with flaps, the lining of the pockets is OD cotton. The lining of the coat is OD cotton. There is a neck loop for hanging. Gold-colored brass buttons, with royal crown above a cannon, are present in front and at all of the outer pockets. There are two hooks and eyelets in the front waist area, for cinching the waist. There is a small pocket inside the coat in the chest area, it secures with a flap and button.  ********* The coat is in good to very good condition. ************* Very interesting tunic of a Canadian soldier who served in WWI and WWII. Given the 1939 date, would be appropriate for a collection of Canadian WWII items from any period of WWII involvement, including Dieppe, Normandy D-Day Invasion. *********** Free shipping to a US address.
