Description
ITEM DESCRIPTIONUp for auction is a Scarce, Circa 1885, Davidson Glass Lady Chippendale Pattern
Open Salt Cellar Dip.
This charming Lady Chippendale pattern individual sized open salt was made by George Davidson & Co., Gateshead, England, circa 1885-1891.
Made of lovely rose pink color glass, it is round in shape with six panels embossed with a floral design and sits on six little shell shaped feet.
This salt can be seen in 5,000 Open Salts (#569) by Heacock & Johnson and in The Open Salt Compendium (Plates 260) by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson where it is noted to be scarce.
It measures just 1-1/4” high by 1-7/8" in diameter and is in good
condition with one fleabite to the inner rim and a chip to one of the tiny feet that does not prevent it from sitting perfectly straight (See last picture).
